The USC Institute of Urology’s pediatric robotic surgery program located at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) has become the most active pediatric robotic surgery program in the western United States and is one of the top three pediatric robotic surgery programs in the country.
One of the few robotic surgery systems in the world being used to provide minimally-invasive surgical care exclusively for children is located at CHLA and it showing outstanding results that include minimizing trauma, incision size and the resulting scarring. In addition robotic surgery provides further advantages of both motion scaling and tremor reduction that are critical in surgical procedures in and around the small anatomical structures of infants and children.
USC’s surgeons are most commonly using robotic surgery for pyeloplastyPyeloplastycorrecting obstruction of the ureter for ureteropelvic junction obstruction and hydronephrosis, and ureteral reimplantUreteral reimplantto treat ureteral strictureation for vesicoureteral reflux. However our surgeons also use it for more complex pediatric surgical procedures.
