Comprising one of the largest teams of its kind in the country, pediatric urology at the USC Institute of Urology is one of our elite programs. The pediatric urology faculty is based out of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. As one of the largest groups of fellowship-trained and board-certified pediatric urologists in the United States, the physicians at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with congenital and acquired disorders of the genitourinary tract.
USC surgeons perform the largest number of pediatric urology cases in Southern California and the Southwestern U.S. with over 2,300 surgical cases per year.
The division was recently named one of the top-ranked hospitals for pediatric urology in the country by U.S. News and World Report. CHLA was named as one of the top 10 children's hospitals in the country and the only top 10 children's hospital in Southern California as well as in the Southwestern United States.
The USC pediatric urology practice provides the highest quality of specialized surgical services for all genitourinary conditions, including circumcisions, hypospadias, hydroceles, hernias, undescended testicles (cryptorchidism), vesicoureteral reflux, genitourinary tumors (Wilms, testis cancer), duplex kidneys, ureteropelvic junction obstruction and all causes of hydronephrosis. In addition we also provide care for more complex disorders requiring extensive surgical reconstruction including intersex, bladder exstrophy, and complete urinary tract reconstruction.
Our evaluation of the child with urinary tract infections and related abnormalities of the genitourinary tract is both comprehensive and modern. We have state-of-the-art treatment modalities for endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, as well as robotic surgery as part of our minimally invasive program. The USC Robotic Surgery program is the most active program in annual pediatric robotic surgery volume in Southern California and the Southwestern United States. It is also one of the top three programs in annual pediatric robotic surgery volume in pediatric urology in the entire country.
USC surgeons also perform a number of both living related and cadaveric renal transplants. Our surgeons work with a team of nephrologists, intensivists and transplant coordinators to ensure top quality care for children undergoing kidney transplantation. Our program is the only program in California to provide kidney donation through a single port through the umbilicus (belly-button).
We also conduct an active research program in both clinical research as well as basic science research through the Saban Research Institute at CHLA and USC.
Our main offices are located at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. We also have 14 satellite offices in several communities throughout Southern California.
