USC Urologists have the largest experience with robotic and laparoscopic surgery for cancers of the kidney, prostate, and urinary bladder. Our urologists have pioneered techniques for robotic or laparoscopic partial nephrectomyNephrectomysurgical removal of all (radical) or part (partial) of the kidney, robotic or laparoscopic prostatectomyProstatectomysurgical removal of all (radical) or part (partial) of the prostate gland and robotic radical cystectomyCystectomysurgical removal of all (radical) or part (partial) of the urinary bladder. We have pioneered the use of transrectal ultrasound navigation during minimally invasive kidney, prostate, and bladder surgery and to improve nerve-sparing during prostatectomy to improve potency and continence outcomes while providing the best cancer cure. We have developed techniques for augmented reality surgical navigation where pre-operative x-ray, ultrasound and CT scan images can be superimposed on the robotic or laparoscopic image to improve surgical precision.
