Felix and Mildred Yip Fellowship in Advanced Robotics and Laparoscopy

The USC Institute of Urology is now offering TWO fellowship positions in advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgery. Both positions are one-year commitments, where the fellows will be involved in research and intensive clinical experience in robotic and laparoscopic surgery for urologic cancers as well as benign conditions.

Abundant opportunity for basic and clinical research is available at USC. Fellows will have the option of working on basic science projects with one of 7 basic science investigators led by Dr. Peter Jones, currently doing research on various aspects of basic urologic oncology. Fellows will also have access to a fully equipped small and large animal laboratory for pre-clinical projects. USC Institute of Urology has excellent clinical databases for all urologic cancers that would be ideal for fellows interested in clinical outcomes research.

The fellows are appointed as junior faculty members (Clinical Instructor in Urology) and will have appropriate responsibilities to help staff cases at LAC+USC Medical Center as well as taking call from home. The fellow will also be expected to independently staff one outpatient clinic per week.

Candidates for these fellowships should be eligible for licensure in California and should have completed full training in urology. In general, graduates of ACGME-accredited residency in the US and Canada will be given preference. International graduates who are eligible for licensure may also apply. There are two positions available and we are currently accepting applications for July 2013 start date.

Fellows will conduct clinical cases primarily at Keck Hospital of USC and LAC+USC Medical Center. Fellows will work directly with full-time academic faculty on both the private and county hospital services (Drs. Inderbir Gill, Mihir Desai, Monish Aron and Matt Dunn) and with the residents and interns on each service. Fellows are expected to participate in over 250 laparoscopic/robotic cases over a 1-year period.

Interested applicants should email a CV, 3 letters of recommendation and a summary of their surgical logs to the fellowship coordinator with a copy to the fellowship directors.
